In this second instalment of the 7 Foolproof Ways to Grow Your Creative Business, we’ll focus on Marketing.
This episode includes 2 of the things we implement in my business but has been either confusing or difficult for most creative entrepreneurs.
If you haven’t listened to the first part of this series yet, I highly recommend you go back to episode 52 and give it a listen first so you’ll get a complete rundown of everything we’re covering in this series.
For part 1 we covered CONTENT – free and paid content or your offers. Basically 2 of the things you’ll need to have to be able to start making money from your creative skills.
Content will help you build your authority in your niche while your offer allows you to sell your skills or knowledge to help others while making money in the process.
Today, we’ll focus on marketing and I want to highlight 2 of the most common marketing strategies we’ve used in our business so pardon if this is not the common marketing strategy you’re expecting. But I promise both are brilliant solutions for your marketing needs.

#3 Grow Your Email List
Email marketing is still the best way to get your offers in front of your target market. Therefore, your email list is your number one asset. And if you don’t have one yet, perhaps it’s time to start working on it.
Unlike social media, you own your email list if anything happens on social media, you have a community you can turn to if you want to share content or sell an offer.
But here’s something that most creative entrepreneurs get wrong. They treat their email list as an avenue for them to sell. Behind every single email in your list is a real person who wants to hear from you. So treat them with respect and nurture your relationship with them. Don’t just send sales emails.
More importantly, you need to send emails that are helpful for them as well. Thru email, you can build the know, like and trust factor a lot faster than any other platform.
So if you want to start building or growing your list:
- Choose an email service provider that offers the services you’re looking for. Make sure it has everything you need so you don’t have to pay for unnecessary services that you won’t even use. Mailchimp and Convertkit both offer FREE plan. You can try their services and test which one you actually like the most.
- Create a lead magnet. This will become the gateway for your audience to sign up to your list. Make one that is compelling enough for people to want to exchange their email address with it.
- Welcome them to your community and nurture them by sending emails that are helpful for them. Build a relationship with them because They’re more than just numbers. They’re real people to want to hear from you so send them emails regularly.
#4 Solve Real Problems
It’s not enough to build a business, create content and sell products. You can have the most amazing product in the world but if it’s not solving anyone’s problems or desires, you won’t make a penny out of it.
But when you solve real problems and know exactly what your target market is craving for, marketing becomes a lot easier.
So how do we know that we’re solving real problems?
- Stop creating content for the sake of creating content.
- Get to know the people you want to help with.
- Identify specific problems you want to help them with.
And if the thought of what problem do you need to solve paralyzes you, then try this:
START WITH WHAT YOU KNOW.
What skills or knowledge do you have that you can share with other people. Start sharing it and in doing so, you’ll attract the people who want to learn from you. The skills and knowledge that you have will eventually become the greatest tool to help the people who are coming to you.
You don’t need to conquer the world and cater to everybody to grow your business. You only need to help the people who need your expertise.
Become that person and you’ll never have a problem with marketing your offer.
With this, you now have the 4 ways to grow your creative business:
- Create Consistent Content
- Streamline Your Offers
- Grow Your Email List
- Solve Real Problems.
We’ll learn about the final 3 ways in the final part of this series but before that, let me ask you this.
Based on everything we talked about, what will you implement right away?
